Vaccines: the big debate

In my family vaccines are a huge debate.  My sister is a high-flying GP and being a homeopath I have somewhat different views on the subject.  Vaxxed has stirred up huge debates and the controversy around it hasn’t got unnoticed.  My college, The Centre for Homeopathic Education (CHE) hosted the London Premier event at Regents College, London after the Curzon Group Cinemas dropped the film last minute after finding out what was being broadcast.  Andrew Wakefield had come to London for the unveiling of the film and to have the venue pulled at the last minute wasn’t exactly the plan!  The principle of CHE, Marcus Fernandez stepped in and offered to host only to have their contract terminated the following day by Regents Park College - wow!  This film has really started to stir up the debate again after it was thrown out of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York by Robert De Niro in April 2016.

So, to vaccinate or not vaccinate - that is the question.  A lot of new parents struggle with this decision so I always advise to do your own research, educate yourself, be objective and make sure you’re making the right decision for you and for nobody else.  Oh, and watched Vaxxed.

It’s interesting to look at the history of vaccines.  In 1983 there were seven vaccines in the schedule, aiming to protect against: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Measles, Mumps and Rubella.

Now in 2017 vaccines have increased and 13 vaccines are recommended before the age of 1 - nearly half of which are combination vaccines.  Combination vaccines have been proven to cause more side effects than having them as single injections.  We now have additional diseases to prevent including: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (whooping cough), Polio, Hib, Pneumococcal Infections, Meningitis B, Meningitis C, Children’s Flu, Measles, Mumps and Rubella.  Later there is the HPV which is a vaccination that has more side effects than most.  Death is one of the side effects, if you missed it, the article on 13-year-old Shazel Zaman who sadly passed away in 2016 after the HPV really does highlight the dangers - this article is available on The Telegraph’s website.  There was another article on Meredith Prohaska prior to this in 2014 who suddenly died after the HPV vaccine - which is available on the Daily Mail’s website.  In fact, these stories have been in the media since this vaccination was introduced into the schedule in 2008.  I’ve had many patients tell me their teenage daughters just haven’t been the same after having the jab with a huge array of symptoms; from amenorrhea, heavy periods, mood changes, changes in energy levels, depression, muscle pain, back pain and the list goes on.

It’s so important to read the information leaflet so that you know the common symptoms and side effects after vaccines and the server adverse (and possibly permanent) side effects to weigh up the risks with all the facts.

If you look at the diseases we vaccinate against, look at the treatment for the disease vs. the side effect of the vaccines and make an informed decision based on fact.

It’s interesting to look at how vaccines are tested - the safety around them is lapse to say the least.  In comparison to standard pharmaceutical drug trials it’s truly shocking how little is known about vaccines until our children test them and the true side effects are reviled.  Just to put it into perspective, as they already had the process in place to make the flu vaccine, the swine flu jab only took 6 months to make, test and hit the market.  For drug trials, it costs about $500 million and takes approximately twelve years to go to market after vigorous testing - even if the drug’s similar to what’s already on the market.

It may also be interesting to know that every time a vaccine is added to the schedule the pharmaceutical producer makes upwards of 15 billion £s a year.

There have been numerous studies on the MMR vaccine (which has always been questioned), Dr Andrew Wakefield is well know as he found a link between the MMR vaccine and Autism and if you watch the film Vaxxed you will see video footage of children before and after the vaccine and those results can’t lie.  The number of parents interviewed who have experienced the same side effects with a later diagnosis of Autism can’t all be wrong.

Autistic children can have some very worrying symptoms such as: anger, hitting, screaming, head banging, swearing, biting, ADD, ADHD, obsessions (and OCD), rituals, routines, fussy eating, delayed/slow learning, delayed speech, dyspraxia, sensory issues, the list goes on and on.  It has been proven that the side effects from the MMR are far less in children who get vaccinated at a later age so if you’re unsure just wait a few more years for the immune system to be a bit more developed.

So, as I said earlier, educate yourself and make an informed decision that’s right for you and your family.
